Translate Socialism101 into your language

How to translate the site

Translate the “basics” page into the language of your choosing. If you’re familiar with more than one language, it may be helpful to look at how passages have been translated in multiple languages.

What kind of translation to provide

While you are free to translate the text in whatever way you want (provided that you stay true to the core meaning of the original), we encourage you to make the translation sound natural. This may mean altering certain wording or phrasing, in case a literal translation from the original English sounds unnatural in your language.

We also encourage you to be creative, and consider that you’re not merely translating a document word-for-word, but adapting a piece of writing for a specific audience. For example, the “We are not social democrats. We are not Democrats. We are not Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, or Barack Obama.” is very US-centric. The French version of Socialism101 has adapted the line to say: “Nous ne sommes pas des sociaux-démocrates. Nous ne sommes pas Jean-Christophe Cambadélis ou Olivier Faure.” [“We are not Jean-Christophe Cambadélis or Olivier Faure”].

What to do about links, videos, and resources

Socialism101 contains several links to English-language articles, some as sources to back up claims and some as resources for further studying. You are not required to alter the source links, or links to videos, unless you want to go above and beyond and you happen to find suitable replacements/translations in your language. As for the “resources” section at the bottom of the page, we encourage you to add links to socialist resources in your language, such as one of the many languages Marxists.org is available in. These resources can be books, articles, videos, or whatever other educational socialist media you can find that is of good quality.

Where to send the translation when it’s finished

Send your translation of the “basics” page to azureScapegoat@Gmail.com. Be sure to include your name and a social media link if you want to be credited.
Preferred format: Google Docs or .docx
